COLONIE – Wolf Road has welcomed a new neighbor into the Town of Colonie: Frank Adams Jewelers. The fourth-generation, family-owned business officially closed its Stuyvesant Plaza storefront on Tuesday, Jan. 16, after being located in the shopping plaza for 28 years.
The 101-year-old business has built a new storefront at its new location at 144 Wolf Road. The jewelry store will reopen to the public on Thursday, Feb. 1, and on Thursday, Feb. 8, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate at 10:30 a.m.
Frank Adams Jewelers was established in 1922 by Frank H. Adams as a small watch repair shop in Albany. For over a century, the business has grown to become one of the Capital Region’s retailers of designer jewelry as well as luxury Swiss timepiece brands. The store is also an Official Rolex and Tudor jeweler and represents other luxury brands such as David Yurman, Kwiat Mine to Shine, Roberto Coin, Ippolita and Jade Trau.
The store has been passed down from generation to generation. Currently, it is run by Kimberly Adams Russell, the granddaughter of the store’s namesake.
The dream of owning a storefront
Russell said she had a dream to own her own storefront, where she and her team could nurture and control their own destiny. She knew that having a free-standing location would give them the room for growth and the flexibility to create a unique, intimate shopping experience for her clients and staff, and offer more privacy.
The new location located across the street from the Wolf Road Shoppers Park Plaza, is 7,500 square feet, double the size of the previous location.
The storefront will also include an outdoor patio, a giant Frank Adams Jewelers clock podium, and courtyard, which will allow the business to host more events, fundraisers, and collaborations with like-minded businesses. They plan to hold a larger grand opening celebration in the spring when they will be able to better enjoy the use of their outdoor space.
“It was important to stay in the Albany area because our roots are here,” Russell said. “The site on Wolf Road offers great visibility and ease of ingress and egress, making it convenient for our clients to shop with us.”
Positive Reaction on the Move
Russell’s family and staff are very excited about the move, and she said client feedback has been very positive. She believes that the community will continue to support her business as she and her team get comfortable inside their new space.
In early January, a moving sale was held at the Stuyvesant Plaza location until the store closed.
On Jan. 15, Frank Adams Jewelers gave a statement on Facebook page to friends and customers at Stuyvesant Plaza expressing gratitude for the memories and friendships that were formed at the former store and thanked customers for their support and being a part of the journey.
“We are very grateful to continue to serve our customers and the community,” Russell said. “We would not be where we are today without their loyalty and support. We take great pride in our business and appreciate our top-notch team.”
