The Voorheesville girls basketball team avenged an earlier loss to Albany Academy by beating the Bears 66-43 Friday, Jan. 30, in a Colonial Council game.
The Blackbirds (7-4 league, 9-7 overall) built a 34-20 halftime lead, and they never looked back in extending their league winning streak to seven games.
Rachel Bogdany netted 17 points for Voorheesville, while Victoria Coluccio chipped in with 15 points and Stephany Keenan added 10 points. Emily Paladino had 26 of Albany Academy’s 43 points.
Voorheesville has two Colonial Council games left in its regular season, beginning with a Friday, Feb. 6, trip to Rotterdam to face Schalmont — a team the Blackbirds beat 46-43 Jan. 9. Voorheesville concludes the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 10, against Fonda-Fultonville.
Boys basketball
Cohoes ended Voorheesville’s five-game winning streak by beating the Blackbirds 58-54 in a Colonial Council boys basketball game Saturday, Jan. 31.
Brandon LaForest returned to form for the Tigers after suffering a leg injury during football season. LaForest drained four three-pointers on his way to a 26-point night in his second game back in Cohoes’ lineup.
Sean Nolan had 20 points, while Isaiah Meaux and Shane Parry each added 10 points for Voorheesville (7-2, 11-5).
After traveling to Watervliet Tuesday, Feb. 3, Voorheesville hosts Schalmont Friday, Feb. 6, in a rematch of a Jan. 9 overtime contest the Sabres won 59-53.
