Anka Parzych’s goal midway through the second half proved to be the game winner as Niskayuna hung on for a 3-2 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in Tuesday’s Suburban Council North Division girls soccer game in Niskayuna.
Kelly Hartlage and Meghan Doyle tallied in the first half to give the Silver Warriors (3-0-0) a 2-0 halftime lead. Carly Finn scored 10 minutes into the second half to pull the Spartans within a goal before Parzych struck eight minutes later.
Finn scored her second goal of the game with less than six minutes left in regulation, but it wasn’t enough for BH-BL.
Boys soccer
Two goals in the second half helped the Shenendehowa boys soccer team defeat Ballston Spa 3-0 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council North Division game.
Chris Schmid gave the Plainsmen (3-0-0) a 1-0 halftime lead with a first-half goal. Drew Lewis and Ricky Grable had Shen’s second-half goals.
Justin Rohrwasser made five saves, and Patrick Gerstenberger stopped two shots in goal for the Plainsmen. Ballston Spa goalies Patrick Touhey and Brady King made a total of nine saves.
In Burnt Hills, Brendan Griffiths’ goal proved to be the difference as Niskayuna edged Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 1-0.
BH-BL goaltender Kurt Souza had seven saves.
Girls swimming
Saratoga Springs pulled off a mild upset as it defeated Bethlehem 95-89 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council girls swim meet.
The Blue Streaks (1-1) won only two events — the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay — but their depth helped them fend off the Lady Eagles (1-1). Elle Kolakowski led Saratoga by winning the 200 freestyle and swimming on the winning relay team.
Grace Ayer (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke), Lauren Zemering (50 freestyle, 500 freestyle) and Kelsey Bohl (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke) each won two individual events for Bethlehem. Kessler Thompson (diving) and Haley Goodrich (100 butterfly) also earned victories.
Elsewhere, defending Section II champion Shenendehowa had little trouble in defeating Guilderville 98-80 in Clifton Park.
Julia Samson recorded a state meet qualifying time of 54.02 seconds in the 100 freestyle and won the 200 freestyle to lead the Plainswomen (2-0). Susie Schwarz (200 individual medley), Sydney Weiskopf (diving) and Angela Ferlo (500 freestyle) also won individual events.
Kelly Gao took first place in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke for Guilderville (0-2). Julia Suozzo (100 butterfly) and Nicole Das (100 breaststroke) also earned victories.
Girls tennis
The Shaker girls tennis team won four of its six singles matches for a 5-4 Suburban Council victory over Saratoga Springs Tuesday.
Shannon Mukerji, Stephanie Behrens, Mia Fallati and Nicole Cocca claimed singles victories for the Blue Bison. Kristen Cocca and Liann Goldman added a victory at No. 2 doubles.
Julianna Rosati and Rachel McDonald posted singles victories for the Blue Streaks, who also won two doubles matches.
Golf
Saratoga Central Catholic’s perfect golf season came to an end on a tiebreaker Tuesday, as Northville/Mayfield edged the Saints on a total score of 252-256.
Jordan Fordyce led Northville/Mayfield with a nine-hole score of 45, while Nick Oda carded a 46 for Saratoga Catholic (8-1).
