Guilderland (2-1-0) rebounded from Thursday’s 1-0 loss to Bethlehem by beating Mohonasen 4-0 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council South Division girls soccer game.
Jess Capone, Angela Luizzi and Kara Carman scored in the first half to give the Lady Dutch a 3-0 lead. Capone added her second goal of the afternoon in the second half to seal the victory.
Mohonasen goaltender Saeeda Abdul-Aziz stopped 11 shots.
Bethlehem (3-0-0) kept its momentum going with a 5-0 victory over Colonie Tuesday. Tara Teal had a hat trick, and Kaylee Rickert contributed two goals and an assist for the Lady Eagles.
Colonie goaltenders Courtney Yule and Meg Penny had a combined total of nine saves.
Girls swimming
Saratoga Springs pulled off a mild upset as it defeated Bethlehem 95-89 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council girls swim meet.
The Blue Streaks (1-1) won only two events — the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay — but their depth helped them fend off the Lady Eagles (1-1). Elle Kolakowski led Saratoga by winning the 200 freestyle and swimming on the winning relay team.
Grace Ayer (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke), Lauren Zemering (50 freestyle, 500 freestyle) and Kelsey Bohl (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke) each won two individual events for Bethlehem. Kessler Thompson (diving) and Haley Goodrich (100 butterfly) also earned victories.
Elsewhere, defending Section II champion Shenendehowa had little trouble in defeating Guilderville 98-80 in Clifton Park.
Julia Samson recorded a state meet qualifying time of 54.02 seconds in the 100 freestyle and won the 200 freestyle to lead the Plainswomen (2-0). Susie Schwarz (200 individual medley), Sydney Weiskopf (diving) and Angela Ferlo (500 freestyle) also won individual events.
Kelly Gao took first place in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke for Guilderville (0-2). Julia Suozzo (100 butterfly) and Nicole Das (100 breaststroke) also earned victories.
Girls volleyball
Guilderland swept Mohonasen 3-0 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council South Division girls volleyball match.
Quincy Kinzel recorded 17 service points including seven aces and eight assists for the Lady Dutch (4-0), who won their three games by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-15. Rebecca Straubel had nine service points including six aces and six digs.
Morgan Papa led Mohonasen with five kills and seven digs, while Julie Reilly contributed five assists, two kills and two aces.
