A tractor trailer carrying diesel fuel went off-road earlier this morning near the on-ramp onto Interstate 90 heading east.
The truck, owned by East Penn Manufacturing, was exiting the New York State Thruway at Exit 24 and tried driving up the Interstate-87 northbound ramp, but failed due to the speed of the vehicle and the inclement weather conditions, according to the New York State Police.
The vehicle took out over 30 feet of guardrail and ended up at the bottom of a steep hill near the on-ramp. According to the release, the accident caused damage to the saddle fuel tanks, dumping 150 gallons of diesel fuel onto the ground. This brought the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to supervise the clean up done by Clean Harbor Inc.
The New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit was also present to inspect the vehicle.
The vehicle was towed out by Dawson’s Heavy Duty Tow Service, according to the release, and went on it’s way up the northway after driver Steven Yenik, 38, of Whitehall, Pa., was ticketed for Imprudent Speed.
