Shaker and Colonie had strong performances at Saturday’s Colonie Relays.
The Shaker boys team edged Shenendehowa for first place, 112.5 points to 109.5 pointa, while Colonie finished third with 91 points.
Shaker won five relays and one of the three individual events. The trio of Brendan Dolan, Jaquell Chandler and Brian Gallagher took first place in the 330-meter shuttle hurdles relay with a time of 47.2 seconds, while the quartet of Alvin Porter, Oluebebe Abara, Bryan Letourneau and Matt Conti finished first in the 800 relay with a time of 1:30.7.
Abara, Dolan and Conti teamed up with Matt Dustin to win the 1,600 relay in a time of 3:27.2. Christopher Herman, Chris Vanzetta, Mike Libruk and Calleb Mellon took first place in the 3,200 relay with a time of 8:25.9, and the trio of Michael Ofosu, Prince Abban and Joase Ruiz finished first in the triple jump relay with a combined distance of 124 feet, 8.5 inches.
Craig Weiss added a victory in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:49.8.
Colonie’s lone win came in the distance medley relay. The team of Tyler Stewart, Nyasha Dangwa, Giancarlo Sainato and Ed Brown finished with a time of 10:31.1. John Drabik added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.1 seconds.
Colonie was second in the girls team standings with 87 points, while Shaker placed third with 85.5 points. Shen ran away with the team title with 140 points.
Colonie won three girls relays. The Garnet Raiders took first place in the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relay events.
Shaker’s Meg Matan won the 100 dash and anchored the Blue Bison’s winning 800 relay.`
