After suffering tough back-to-back losses to Guilderland and Bethlehem at the start of last week, the Shaker girls lacrosse team bounced back by beating Averill Park and Niskayuna to improve its record to 7-3.
The Blue Bison used an eight-goal second half to pull away from Averill Park for a 13-5 victory last Friday. Lexi Dalcol tallied five times, and Adrianne Devine contributed four goals and two assists to lead Shaker’s offense.
Goaltender Victoria Bulson stopped 10 shots, and Julia DiBernardo made three saves to preserve Shaker’s win. Meghan Patanlan had 12 saves for Averill Park.
The Blue Bison needed another big second half to pull out Monday’s 13-8 victory over Niskayuna. They struck for nine goals in the final 25 minutes to overcome a 5-4 halftime deficit.
Four players reached the scoring column for Shaker, led by Caroline Rehfuss’ six goals. Devine chipped in four goals, and Dalcol added two goals and three assists. Bulson made six saves in goal.
Kayla Treanor had four goals and an assist for Niskayuna (3-7 league, 4-7 overall).
The Blue Bison needed those wins over Averill Park and Niskayuna after losing to league-leading Guilderland 20-7 last Monday and falling to second-place Bethlehem 8-7 last Wednesday.
Shaker was within striking distance of Guilderland (11-0, 13-0) at halftime before the Lady Dutch pulled away by outscoring the Blue Bison 11-3 in the second half.
Danielle Tetreault and Courtney Davis combined for 11 goals and two assists to lead a balanced Guilderland attack. Rehfuss had a hat trick for Shaker.
The Blue Bison were involved in a tighter battle with Bethlehem last Wednesday. The lead changed hands several times in the first half before the Lady Eagles eeked out the one-goal win.
Shirah Fudin, Anna Kolbay and Kylie Caesar each scored two goals to lead Bethlehem (8-1, 9-1). Dalcol tallied four times for Shaker.
Shaker travels to Columbia Wednesday for a Suburban Council game.
In other girls lacrosse action last week, Colonie (3-5, 3-5) succumbed to the Guilderland machine 19-10. The Lady Dutch jumped out to a 15-5 halftime lead before cruising to the nine-goal victory.
Tetreault had four goals and two assists for Guilderland, which placed 11 players in the scoring column. Alli Griffin led Colonie with four goals and an assist, and Lauren Kross contributed three goals and an assist.
Colonie was scheduled to play Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Monday.`
