Dylan Nizolek scored late in the first overtime period to lead Saratoga to a 9-8 victory over Ballston Spa in Tuesday’s opening round of the Section II, Class A boys lacrosse playoffs.
Nizolek finished with two goals, while Matthew Crimmins tallied four times and added two assists for the 11th-seeded Blue Streaks, who advance to Thursday’s quarterfinal against No. 3 Shenendehowa.
Cory Nowak, Greg Dunlavey and Jeff Seager all scored two goals for the sixth-seeded Scotties, who scored six of their eight goals in the second half.
Shen reached the quarterfinals with a convincing 16-4 victory over No. 14 Albany Academy Tuesday. John Olsen led a balanced Plainsmen attack with four goals and four assists. Kevin Bloss and Jesse Elliot both contributed three goals.
In Class B, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Amsterdam 15-5 in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round. The fourth-seeded Spartans meet top-seed Scotia-Glenville in Thursday’s semifinal at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.`
