Pairings for the Section II baseball playoffs were announced Wednesday at the Boght Baseball Complex in Latham, with Shenendehowa and Loudonville Christian among the seven teams receiving No. 1 seeds.
Shen earned the No. 1 seed out of the Suburban Council and a first-round bye in Class AA. The Plainsmen host the winner of Thursday’s Niskayuna-Amsterdam game Saturday at 11 a.m.
Bethlehem earned the No. 2 seed out of the Suburban Council after winning the Gold Division title. The Eagles host either Christian Brothers Academy or Shaker in Saturday’s quarterfinal round. CBA and Shaker play at 4 p.m. Thursday at CBA’s Colonie campus.
Undefeated LaSalle is the top seed out of the Big 10. The Cadets — New York’s top ranked Class AA team — will host either Guilderland or Schenectady at 11 a.m. Saturday at Geer Field in south Troy. Guilderland and Schenectady meet in Thursday’s opening round at Guilderland High School.
Albany — coached by Shaker High School graduate Joey DiPiazza — makes its return to Sectional play Thursday when it hosts Colonie at Bleecker Stadium. The Falcons are the No. 2 seed out of the Big 10, while Colonie is the No. 7 seed from the Suburban Council.
Queensbury and Columbia meet in the other first-round game Thursday, with the winner advancing to meet either Albany or Colonie Saturday.
In Class A, South Glens Falls received the No. 1 seed after winning the Foothills Council. The Bulldogs host No. 8 Bishop Maginn in Saturday’s quarterfinal round.
Suburban Council White Division champion Mohonasen is the No. 2 seed. The Mighty Warriors will play No. 7 Glens Falls Saturday at Rotterdam’s Memorial Park.
Scotia-Glenville earned the No. 3 seed and a quarterfinal home game against No. 6 Lansingburgh Saturday at 11 a.m. No. 4 Ichabod Crane and No. 5 Gloversville meet in the other quarterfinal game.
Eleven teams made the Class B field, with Patroon Conference champion Chatham earning the No. 1 seed and Colonial Council champion Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk receiving the No. 2 seed. Both earned first-round byes, as did No. 3 Granville, No. 4 Hudson and No. 5 Schalmont. Schalmont travels to Hudson Saturday for a quarterfinal game.
Chatham plays the winner of the Schuylerville-Cohoes game Saturday at 11 a.m., while R-C-S hosts either Fonda-Fultonville or Johnstown Saturday. Granville meets the winner of Thursday’s game between Saratoga Central Catholic and Coxsackie-Athens Saturday.
Lake George is the No. 1 seed in Class CC and will host either No. 8 Watervliet or No. 9 Hoosick Falls Saturday. Greenwich is the No. 2 seed, followed by Corinth at No. 3 and Voorheesville at No. 4. Voorheesville meets No. 5 Schoharie in Saturday’s quarterfinal round.
Fort Plain earned the No. 1 seed in Class C and a quarterfinal game against No. 8 Salem Saturday. Central Hudson Valley League champion Waterford-Halfmoon is the No. 2 seed, with Duanesburg at No. 3 and Germantown at No. 4.
Loudonville Christian gained the top seed in Class D and a home game Saturday at Cook Park in Colonie. The Eagles will meet either No. 8 St. Johnsville or No. 9 Hartford at 11 a.m.
Argyle is the No. 2 seed, followed by Fort Ann at No. 3 and Schenectady Christian at No. 4. Schenectady Christian hosts No. 5 North Warren Saturday at Collins Park in Scotia.`
