COLONIE – Albany County District Attorney David Soares announced today that Bledar Hoxha,
41, of Latham, pleaded Not Guilty to an eight-count indictment handed up on December 16.
The indictment includes: One count of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of assault in the first degree, two counts of burglary in the first degree, one count of aggravated criminal contempt, all felonies, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
On Thursday, Dec. 1 at approximately 6 p.m., the Colonie police responded to 99 Fiddlers Lane for a report of a violent domestic incident. The altercation was overheard by multiple neighbors, who contacted the police.
Upon police arrival, a commotion could be heard inside the residence, and officers were able to quickly make entry into the residence. Hoxha was immediately taken into custody.
A female victim, age 39, was located in the residence with severe injuries. These injuries consisted of stab wounds on her neck, head, and face.
According to police, Hoxha unlawfully entered the residence, menaced the female with a BB gun, then stabbed her multiple times with a kitchen knife.
An investigation determined that the Hoxha is the estranged partner of the victim. They share two children together. The children, ages 6 and 12, were inside the residence and witnessed this incident and were unharmed.
Albany County Family Court issued an order of protection on October 24 which prohibited Hoxha from being in the presence of the victim and her children.
The order was issued as a result of Family Court proceedings. It was not the result of any prior arrest.
Hoxha has been remanded to the Albany County Jail, and new temporary orders of protection have been issued on behalf of three individuals.
Hoxha is next scheduled to appear in court on January 20 at 11 a.m.
10 times leads
to felony charge
LATHAM – On Wednesday, Dec. 14 at approximately 3:22 p.m., Colonie police responded to a property-damage accident at the intersection of Old Loudon and Watervliet Shaker Roads. Upon investigating the officer found that the driver of a Toyota Carolla, Juan Hernandez, 24, of Watervliet, did not have a valid driver’s license.
According to reports, Hernandez had 19 total suspensions. He was taken into custody and charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation. Hernandez was arraigned in Colonie Town Court by Judge Norman Massry.
Two felony
arrests in a week
COHOES – Colonie police arrested a Cohoes man on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Green Lantern Motel on Loudon Road for possession of a forged instrument, a felony, after an investigation into a November 8 incident at the location. He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and released.
Thomas Ekmalian, 34, was then arrested again by Colonie police at Walmart on Monday, Dec. 12 after he was involved in a check a subject call at the store and it was found that he had an outstanding felony warrant from East Greenbush police.
He was processed on that charge and turned over to East Greenbush police.
Warrant arrest
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to the Super 8 motel on Wolf Road on Friday, Dec. 9 at 1:07 p.m. and interviewed an Albany woman. Officers found she had an outstanding warrant for not showing up for Colonie court dates.
Shariyah Daniels, 26, was processed and arraigned at Colonie Town Court.
DWI on Central Avenue
COLONIE – On Saturday, Dec. 10 at 12:32 a.m., Colonie police stopped a car driven by a 28-year-old Schenectady man for a traffic violation.
Officers observed the man to show multiple signs of impairment. He was given and failed field sobriety tests and he also refused a breath test on a pre-screening device.
The man was taken into custody and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. He was also issued tickets for insufficient lights, operating a motor vehicle without an inspection sticker, Failure to notify for change of address, refusal to take a breath test, unsafe tires and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, all violations.
He was processed and released on an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on Monday, Dec. 26.
Woman charged after damaging car
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to the Surestay Hotel on Wolf Road for a report of damage on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 12:29 a.m.
Officers found Alexandra Maddock, 30, of Albany to be highly intoxicated from drinking at the hotel bar and an investigation found she intentionally caused more than $250 worth of damage to a vehicle.
Maddock was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, a felony, processed and given an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
She was turned over to Samaritan Hospital to detox from alcohol, according to reports.
Lost, drunk and in stranger’s driveway
COLONIE – A caller notified Colonie Police that a strange car was parked and running in her father’s driveway on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 6:14 a.m.
When police arrived they found a 32-year-old Castleton woman sitting in the driver’s seat of her 2018 black Honda, with the engine running and talking to the relative who called police.
When officers interviewed her, they observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath and she had bloodshot and watery eyes. According to reports, the woman said she was traveling home from Wolf Road but was very confused as to where she was. She failed some field sobriety tests, could not complete another and then refused to complete others including a test for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device.
A further investigation found that she did not have a valid driver’s license and that she had alcoholic beverage containers in her vehicle, according to police.
The woman was taken into custody and transported to the station where she attempted, but could not complete a breath test. She did consent to having her blood drawn for BAC. Those results are pending, Police said.
The woman was charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation, both misdemeanors, and violations of drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle and refusal to take a breath test.
She was released on an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on Monday, Dec. 19.
Run red light, arrest for outstanding warrant
COLONIE – A woman wanted for not showing up for court made the mistake of running a red light at the corner of Wolf Road and Central Avenue on Monday, Dec. 12.
Colonie police arrested Nicole Cappello, 45, of Mechanicville for a bench warrant from Colonie Town Court. She was processed and arraigned on the warrant, then given a ticket for running the red light.
Robbery, larceny and parole violation
COLONIE – On Monday, Dec. 12, Colonie police arrested a homeless man after he was taken into custody by the Albany County Sheriff’s office for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Dominic Ward, 25, was charged with burglary, a felony, petit larceny and a parole violation, both misdemeanors, stemming from a November 21 incident. He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court. He also had another case pending.
Bench warrant
COLONIE – Byan Ramirez, 38, of Troy was brought to the Colonie police station on the Albany County Jail transport on Monday, Dec. 12 and was arraigned on a bench warrant for not showing up for court.
Grand larceny and forged instrument
COLONIE – On Monday, Dec. 12, an outside police agency transported Larry Parker, 64, who is homeless, to Colonie police to face charges from a May 2021 incident at Newbury Plaza on Wolf Road.
Parker was charged with grand larceny, a felony, and possession of a forged instrument, a misdemeanor, processed and arraigned in Colonie Town Court.
Bench warrant
SCHENECTADY – On Monday, Dec. 12, Colonie police arrested Shaun Menzer, 35, who is homeless at the Schenectady County Jail as he was released to face a harassment charge that he failed to appear for in June.
Menzer was processed and given an appearance ticket to Colonie Town Court on Wednesday, Dec. 28. He was then transported to Saratoga County to face an outstanding warrant there.
Warrant from Cohoes
COLONIE – Colonie police arrested Ricardo Rodriquez, 31, at Tuff Shed on Central Avenue on Tuesday, Dec. 13, after an investigation found he had an outstanding warrant from the City of Cohoes from August.
Rodriquez was transported to meet an officer from Cohoes police department.
Domestic charges
COLONIE – Colonie police arrested an Albany man on Tuesday, dec 13 for an outstanding warrant relating to a domestic incident in July and added new charges for recent activity.
Andre Jachura, 40, was processed for the warrant and charged additionally with two felony counts each of criminal contempt – prior conviction and aggravated family office.
He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court.
Injured in crash, charged with DWI
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at approximately 12:44 p.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and Ormond Street.
At the crash scene, a 23-year-old Clifton Park man was found to be intoxicated, but was injured in the accident and was transported to the Albany Medical Center Hospital.
He was charged with DWI and processed at the hospital, then given an appearance ticket for Wednesday, Dec. 28 for Colonie Town Court.
Bench warrant
COLONIE – Scotia police transported Edwin Quesada, 55, of Johnstown to Colonie police to face charges from failing to appear in Colonie Town Court in September.
Police gave him an appearance ticket per Judge Norman Massry and released.
Crash and DWI
COLONIE – A 28-year-old Albany man was arrested after he crashed his car after driving recklessly on Kings Road on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The man was found to be intoxicated and taken into custody for DWI. He was transported to the police station where he was also charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and violations of failure to keep right and failure to stay in a single lane.
He refused to give his fingerprints and photos. He was given an appearance ticket for Monday, Dec. 26 and released.
Outside warrant
COLONIE – On Saturday, Dec. 17 at approximately 1:31 p.m. Colonie police found that a Chatham man was wanted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
He was taken into custody and turned over to deputies in Schodack.
Wanted woman in car accident
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to a personal injury accident near the intersection of Central Avenue and Osborne Road on Saturday, Dec. 17 at approximately 3:59 p.m.
Upon running the driver’s license of one of the drivers, officers found that Essence Parodie, 26, of Albany had a warrant out of the Colonie Town Court.
She was given an appearance ticket for January 4 and released.
Grand larceny at Macy’s
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to Macy’s at Colonie Center on Saturday, Dec. 17 and arrested Ronai Ragin-Miller, 24, of Troy for grand larceny, a felony.
She was transported to the police station and given an appearance ticket for Wednesday, Dec 21.
Bench warrant
COLONIE – A 23-year old homeless man was turned over to Colonie police on an active warrant for failing to appear in Colonie Town Court on Saturday, Dec 17 at approximately 9:48 p.m.
Dione Kowalchyk was processed and sent to the Albany County Jail as a pre-arraignment detainee.
Weapon call at Shenanigan’s leads to charges, then more
COLONIE – On Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3:17 a.m., Colonie police were dispatched to Shenanigan’s on Central Avenue to investigate a person with a weapon.
Upon arrival, Faheem Aziz, 30, of Syracuse, gave police a false name and also had a quantity of MDNA, a controlled substance. Officers took him into custody and processed him at the police station. Aziz was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and false impersonation, both misdemeanors.
While there, however, officers found Aziz had an additional New Jersey driver’s license that identified him as Kareem Smith. He was charged with felony possession of a forged instrument.
He was arraigned in front of Colonie Town Judge Norman Massry.
