COLONIE — The Annual Crossings 5k Challenge and Kid’s Run will be held this Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Rudy A. Cicotti Family Recreation Center.

The race, which starts and ends behind the center, begins at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m., to be followed by the Kid’s Zone opening at 9 a.m. and kid’s quarter mile and mile runs, both to start at 10:45 a.m.

Food and other refreshments will be provided by Hannaford Supermarkets and Prestige Services. There will also be coffee at the event provided by local favorite Professor Java’s.

One hundred percent of the race proceeds will go to Colonie Youth Center’s Scholarship Assistance Program, which, according to the center, helps to create childcare programs, Cicotti Center Opportunities, and family counseling services.

In its thirteenth year, the race attracts participants of all ages. This year, the race has a new certified course. The finish line of the course, which has been redesigned, will remain behind the Ciccotti Center, according to CYC. The rest of the course will run inside the Crossings Town Park, which will help to eliminate road traffic and safety concerns.

Sponsors include Sara Bella Pizza, Colonie Landfill, and The Calareso Law Firm.

Race organizers are projecting that over 600 people will participate in the event this year

“I like the fact that it is a popular community event that has something for every member of the family and helps a worthy cause,” Frank Marchesini, race director, said.
