Delmar man faces DWI charge after hitting wayward deer
SELKIRK — A 36-year-old Delmar man faces DWI charges after striking a deer with his car.
On November 24, at about 2 a.m., State Police observed a vehicle strike a deer while patrolling on Elm Avenue in Delmar.
The vehicle continued, and troopers observed violations of the vehicle and traffic laws.
A traffic stop was conducted on Elkin Court, and during an interview, troopers identified the driver as a 36-year-old Delmar man. The trooper detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and roadside sobriety testing was conducted, which indicated impairment. He was arrested for DWI and transported to New Scotland for processing, where he provided a breath sample that returned a 0.14 percent BAC.
He was issued tickets returnable to the Bethlehem Town Court on December 20 and released to a sober party.
Troopers arrest Albany man for cashing forged checks totaling over $12,000
LATHAM – On November 20, State Police arrested Norman Mccall, 56, of Albany, on a warrant for grand larceny in the third degree, possession of a forged instrument in the first degree, two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree and two counts of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. All the charges are felonies.
On July 18, State Police received a complaint that on July 15, money had been stolen from the complainant’s business account by utilizing multiple fraudulent checks. The investigation determined Mccall cashed multiple forged checks at different bank branches resulting in the theft of over $12,000. The checks were reported by Keybank locations in Guilderland and Colonie on that date. Another fraudulent check was reported by the Keybank in Cohoes on August 31.
Mccall was located with the assistance of the Albany police department on November 20 and transported to the barracks in Latham for processing. He was arraigned at the Colonie Town Court and sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
Man arrested on warrant for 2020 larceny
GLENMONT — A man arrested in April 2020 on larceny charges was arrested on an outstanding warrant Thursday, Nov 17.
Bethlehem detectives traveled to the Orange County Jail to pick up Butchie Middleton, 36, of Newburgh, to face petit larceny charges related to an incident at Walmart and the outstanding in issued by Bethlehem Town Court on February 11 because did not show up for court dates. Middleton was being held in jail for charges in Orange County.
He was arraigned and returned to Orange County Jail and is scheduled to return to Bethlehem Town Court on Tuesday, Dec 20.
Woman arrested on warrant for 2021 Walmart larceny
GLENMONT — A woman arrested in an October 2021 larceny at Walmart was arrested by the State Police for an outstanding warrant during a traffic stop and turned over to Bethlehem police on Monday, Nov 21.
Elonda Leigh, 47, of Loudonville, was scheduled to appear on Oct. 19, 2021, but did not appear and Bethlehem Judge Andrew Kirby signed a warrant on May 24.
Leigh faces petit larceny charges in the original incident and the warrant. She was arraigned by Kirby and released on her own recognizance. Leigh is scheduled to be back in court on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
DWAI Drugs on Delaware Avenue
DELMAR — Bethlehem police stopped a Black 2021 Toyota Supra for speeding on Delaware Avenue on Saturday, Nov. 19 at approximately 12:33 a.m.
Upon interviewing the driver, a 53-year-old Mineola man, the officer observed the driver’s eyes to be glassy and bloodshot and his speech was impaired. According to reports the man said he did consume alcohol approximately two hours prior to the traffic stop.
He was given field sobriety tests which indicated impairment and tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device. The man also said he takes several medications and provided the bottle to the officer. The labels on some of the medications had warnings that the drugs could impair the consumer’s ability to operate a motor vehicle. The man was taken into custody for DWAI and transported to the police station.
At the station, he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and provided a blood sample.
He was given a bill of particulars, issued traffic tickets and released.
He is scheduled to return to Bethlehem Town Court on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
