BETHLEHEM — A 59-year-old Slingerlands man attempted to use a crosswalk to cross Delaware Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Delmar man.
The incident happened at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Fisher Boulevard. According to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, the eastbound vehicle then stopped and the driver has been cooperating with investigators. The victim sustained traumatic injuries and was transported by a Delmar-Bethlehem ambulance to the Albany Medical Center. The Albany County Sheriff’s Paramedics, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, Delmar Fire Department and Slingerlands Fire Department responded to the scene.
The victim’s and driver’s identities have not been revealed but the latter was issued a traffic violation for failure to yield to the right of way of a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Neither alcohol nor speed was considered as contributing to the accident.
