GLENMONT — A tractor-trailer hauling a cargo container struck an overpass, dislodging the container which struck a minivan near the intersection of NYS Route 9W and Corning Hill Road on Monday evening, Sept. 10.
The Bethlehem Police Department received a call at about 5:30 p.m. for a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a minivan. According to police, the tractor-trailer was northbound on NYS Route 9W when it struck the New York State Thruway overpass bridge causing the container to dislodge from the trailer. The container then struck a minivan that was southbound. The driver of the minivan had to be extricated from her vehicle by Selkirk Fire Department and was transported to Albany Medical Center by Delmar-Bethlehem EMS for non-life threatening injuries.
NYS Route 9W was closed for approximately two hours while crews worked to clear the roadway and New York State Department of Transportation inspected the bridge for damage. At this time the investigation is continuing and charges pending.
