DELMAR – More than 500 people gathered at the center of town, braving the cold, to watch the annual fireworks usher in 2018 at Bethlehem First Night on Sunday, Dec. 31.
Bethlehem kicked off its second consecutive First Night festivities despite below freezing temperatures. According to Albany International Airport, the temperature was 3.9°F when fireworks launched at approximately 6:30 p.m. However, the weather was not an issue for the majority of the activities remained safely indoors.
Nonetheless, residents were treated to a spectacular pyrotechnic display to start the night. A clear, dark sky provided a clean canvas for which the fireworks to burst and dazzle, while also revealing a near full moon. One resident could not help but notice the similarity to the opening credits of the popular Jackie Gleason television series, “The Honeymooners.”
