ALBANY – Nominations for the 2018 Tulip Queen and her court are now open.
After the crowning at the annual Tulip Festival, held in Washington Park on May 12 and 13, the five women will spend a year working on community outreach and programs an educational initiatives.
A part of Albany tradition that dates to the 1940s, the Tulip queen and her four court members are chosen each year by a committee of local leaders. Nominees must have a strong sense of community, be knowledgeable of the Albany area and its history and possess leadership skills.
Eligible women must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and will reside in Albany County for the entire year as Tulip Queen – May 2018 to May 2019.
The Tulip Queen will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship and each court member will receive a $1,500 scholarship upon completion of the program.
Nominations will be accepted online at www.albanytulipqueen.com, which in addition to the nomination form, has information on the selection process, photos, events and blogs by the current Tulip Queen, Ashley Loggins and her court members.
Nominations can also be mailed by submitting a letter detailing a candidate’s qualifications to: Albany Tulip Queen Selection Committee, Albany City Hall, Room 402, 24 Eagle St., Albany NY 12207. All written nominations should include the candidate’s name, address and phone number as well as the name and phone number of the nominator.
