ALBANY — Animator/director Ron Campbell will make a rare personal appearance for a three-day event Monday, Oct. 17, through Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the R.B. Wing Building, 384/386 Broadway.
Campbell — a director on the 1960s Beatles cartoon series and an animator on the Beatles “Yellow Submarine” movie — will showcase his original Beatles cartoon paintings created specifically for the show and create new paintings at the exhibit, which will be available for sale.
Since retiring after a 50-year career, Campbell has been painting subjects based on the animated series he worked on. With an emphasis on The Beatles, he has shown his cartoon pop art in galleries worldwide.
The event is a pop up exhibit sponsored by the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District in partnership with Albany Center Gallery, a non-profit art gallery with a mission of showcasing and promoting local artists.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ron Campbell to downtown (Albany),” said Downtown Albany BID Executive Director Georgette Steffens. “A draw for children and parents alike, this provides another opportunity for people to experience downtown and the unique events held here.”
Campbell will be at the R.B. Wing Building from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, and from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 and Wednesday, Oct. 19.
