For the last several years I have been the ‘fruity’ mom for the classroom Valentine’s Day party. A couple of years ago we shared our Watermelon Fruit Kabobs and dip recipe.
Although, it was a very simple dessert to share, I think it was one of the biggest hits. Why? Kids love watermelon, but it’s not always the most common fruit served this time of year. It felt like a big treat. With a little savvy shopping I was able to serve an entire classroom of 25 kids this treat for about $10.

Watermelon Heart Kabobs & Valentine’s Fun Dip
Needed:
• 4 oz. whipped topping
• 6 oz. raspberry yogurt
• ¼ teaspoon raspberry extract
• Watermelon
• Mini heart cookie or fondant cutter (approximately 2” in width)
• Small skewers or cake/candy pop sticks
• Knife
• Cutting board
Instructions:
Fold together the whipped topping, yogurt and raspberry extract to create the dip. Cover and refrigerate the dip until it’s time to serve.
Measure the slices of watermelon to match the width of the cookie/fondant cutter you are using. The slices should be slightly less in width than the utensil you are using, but still wide enough to skew without them breaking.
Simply cut hearts out of the watermelon slices. I was able to yield three hearts per slice of watermelon when using a quartered watermelon purchased at my local supermarket; although it will depend on the wedge sizes. This is a perfect step for kids of all ages to assist in helping.
Skew the hearts and serve! We skewed three watermelon hearts per kabob, but this may vary depending on the length of skewers/cake pop sticks used.
Optional:
Add other fruit in between each heart shaped watermelon such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc.
