Girls basketball: Albany uses a balanced offense to pull away from Shaker

ALBANY COUNTY Albany’s balanced offense and tough defense was too much for Shaker, as the Falcons defeated the Blue Bison 70-46 in a Suburban Council girls basketball game Friday, Jan. 29, in Latham.

Albany had 11 players reach the scoring column, led by Alexis Brown’s 17-point performance, while its defense forced Shaker into numerous turnovers.

Leah Dollard contributed 12 points for the Falcons, who outscored the Blue Bison 12-4 in the second quarter to break open a close game.

Sierra “CeCe” Mayo had 24 points, and Audrey Martino added 10 points for Shaker.

Across town, Colonie rallied past Averill Park 41-38. The Lady Raiders outscored the Warriors 20-9 in the fourth quarter to overcome an eight-point deficit.

Aliyah Wright poured in 20 points for Colonie, while Samantha Laranjo led Averill Park with 18 points.

Guilderland limited Mohonasen to 10 points in the second half on its way to a 39-30 victory over the Mighty Warriors. Olivia Bauman had 14 points for the Lady Dutch, while Saeeda Abdul-Aziz scored 16 points for Mohonasen.

Bethlehem left Ballston Spa behind with an 80-49 victory. Jenna Giacone scored 21 points, and Emily Wander chipped in with 17 points for the Lady Eagles, who built a 53-29 halftime lead.

Olivia Allrich netted 16 points, and Katie McMahon added 15 points for Ballston Spa.

Four Voorheesville players reached double figures in scoring, as the Blackbirds defeated Cobleskill-Richmondville 59-49 in a Colonial Council game.

Rachael Bogdany scored 16 points, while Rachel Blow contributed 13 points for Voorheesville. Stephany Keenan had 12 points, and Olivia Barringer added 11 points.

Maya Nicholas paced Cobleskill with 13 points.

Academy of the Holy Names downed Watervliet 45-31 behind Riley Williams’ 12 points. Sheila Caminiti scored 14 points for Watervliet.
