Girls basketball: Shaker edges Columbia

ALBANY COUNTY The Shaker girls basketball team held on for a 54-50 Suburban Council victory over Columbia Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Latham.

Sierra “CeCe” Mayo netted 23 points, and Audrey Martino contributed 13 points for the Blue Bison, who survived a third quarter rally by the Blue Devils to pull out the win. Selena Lott scored 20 points for Columbia.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Bethlehem bounced back from its nine-point home loss to Saratoga by beating Niskayuna 61-33 on the road.

Julianna Okoniewski had 14 points, and Jenna Giacone chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Eagles, who raced out to a 42-21 lead after three quarters. Olivia Souky paced Niskayuna with 12 points.

Saratoga jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 61-46 victory over Guilderland. Kerry Flaherty poured in 26 points, and Catherine Cairns contributed 24 points for the Blue Streaks.

Olivia Bauman scored 13 points, and Skye Lindsay added 12 points for Guilderland.

Shenendehowa handled Colonie 71-38 in Clifton Park. The Plainsmen led 24-6 after the first quarter and 44-10 at halftime.

Carly Boland netted 22 points, and Cameron Tobey had 15 points for Shen. Erin Fouracre and Aliyah Wright each scored eight points for Colonie.

In the Central Hudson Valley League, Emma Willard got past Loudonville Christian 43-33. Sharde Johnson scored 16 points for the Jesters, while Lesha Tenney led the Eagles with 18 points.
