Tuesday roundup: Watervliet wrestlers edge Albany Academy

ALBANY COUNTY Watervliet received three forfeits at the end to edge Albany Academy 43-42 in a Colonial Council wrestling meet Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Connor Lyons (120 pounds), Collin O’Brien (145) and Andrew Larvia (170) pinned their opponents to lead the Cannoneers. Evan Cote (113) contributed a major decision, and Charles LaBelle (132) won his bout for Watervliet.

Shaker defeated Niskayuna 99-82 in a Suburban Council boys swim meet Jan. 19.

William Matz led the Blue Bison with victories in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles. Zeeshan Irani (50 freestyle), Mark Enright (500 freestyle) and Matthew Kearney (100 backstroke) also won individual events.

Trevor Matuszyk earned victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke for Niskayuna.

Elsewhere, Bethlehem picked up a 96-85 victory over Saratoga. Brendan Cartwright (100-yard freestyle, 200 freestyle) won a pair of events for the Eagles, while John Moloney (50 freestyle), Chris Redmond (diving), Alex Taber (500 freestyle) and Connor Doyle (100 backstroke) added individual victories.

Zach Zwijacz led Saratoga with victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly.

Shenendehowa eased past Guilderland-Voorheesville 100-75. Six different Plainsmen won individual events to lead the way.

Daniel Zhu (50-yard freestyle), Michael Ardito (100 backstroke) and Jeremy Collison (100 breaststroke) earned victories for Guilderville.
