COLONIE The Shaker wrestling team took first place at the Joe McCabe Invitational Friday, Jan. 15, at Maple Hill High School.
Ten wrestlers placed in the top four of their weight classes to lead the Blue Bison to the team title with 196 points. Tamarac was second with 187 points, and Watervliet placed third with 180 points.
Chris Pavelec and Ethan Hartlage won individual titles for Shaker. Pavelec edged Whitehall’s Tyler Martel 1-0 in the 126-pound championship bout to raise his record to 28-4, while Hartlage defeated Watervliet’s Andrew Larvia 10-4 to win the 170-pound division title.
Anthony Mandigo placed second in the 120-pound weight class for Shaker. Steve Hoare (99 pounds), Josh Bennett (145), Josh Marcil (152) and Connor McElroy (220) placed third in their divisions, while Tyler Stanton (106), Colby Pierson (113) and Anthony Laggone (132) finished fourth.
Patrick Moore (106 pounds), Connor Lyons (113), Charles LaBelle (132) and Collin O’Brien (145) all won their weight classes for Watervliet. Stephen Lyons (160 pounds) and Hunter Weaver (195) earned victories in the consolation finals to place third in their weight classes.
