Hockey: Bethlehem handles Fayetteville-Manlius

BETHLEHEM The Bethlehem hockey team scored three goals in the third period to pull away for a 5-2 victory over Fayetteville-Manlius on the second day of the Bethlehem Winter Classic at the Bethlehem Area YMCA.

Matt Bievenue and Skyler Anson tallied early in the third period to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead. Will Healy scored to pull Fayetteville-Manlius within two goals, but Thomas Liebold netted an insurance goal late in the game.

Michael Bievenue and Brian Harder tallied in the first period to put Bethlehem in front 2-0, and goaltender Alex Breiner stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced to pick up the win.

Ben Hammond added a goal for Fayetteville-Manlius, and goaltender Mike Hockenberger made 24 saves.

In the early game Tuesday, West Genesee defeated Shaker/Colonie 7-2. Ryan McDonald recorded a hat trick and added an assist for the Wildcats, who outshot the Jets 41-9.

Jimmy Morrison scored both of Shaker/Colonie’s goals, and goaltender Connor Harris stopped 34 shots.
