Basketball: Colonie advances to final of Pep Sand Tournament

COLONIE The Colonie boys basketball team edged Catholic Central 67-65 in the opening round of the Pep Sand Holiday Challenge Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Bryce Waterman scored 29 points to lead the Garnet Raiders, who overcame a 36-29 halftime deficit. Josh Paszkowski contributed 12 points.

Alex Decker netted 21 points, and Gabe Woodley added 20 points for Catholic Central.

The Garnet Raiders will meet Albany Academy in Wednesday’s final after the Cadets defeated Guilderland 71-62 in the other opening round game.

Hameir Wright poured in 27 points for Albany Academy, while George Marinopoulos netted 18 points for Guilderland. Michael Wine contributed 15 points for the Dutchmen.

Christian Brothers Academy won its own holiday tournament by beating Kingston 83-70. Sloan Seymour scored 32 points, and Mike Wynn added 27 points for the Brothers.

LaSalle defeated Bethlehem 59-55 in the consolation game of the CBA Tournament. Joe DeLollo scored 15 points for LaSalle, while Luke Dole and Ryan Murray each knocked down 14 points for Bethlehem.

Schenectady defeated Shaker 55-51 in a non-league game. Tobias Holmes led four Schenectady players in double figures with 13 points, while Brian Hayes netted 19 points for Shaker.

Voorheesville won the Saratoga Central Catholic Tournament by beating the host school 65-53. Alex Giordano had 26 points, and Sean Nolan chipped in with 16 points for the Blackbirds, who closed the game with a 22-10 run. Connor Farrington and Peter Francamono each scored 17 points for Saratoga Central Catholic.

Baldwinsville edged Guilderland 49-47 in a non-league girls basketball game. Skye Lindsay tallied 14 points for the Lady Dutch.
