COLONIE The Colonie and Shaker boys basketball teams won their Suburban Council openers Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Colonie (1-0) held on for a 62-59 victory over league newcomer Troy, while Shaker (1-0) eased past Averill Park 63-39.
Colonie outscored Troy 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 34-27 halftime lead, and then fended off a late rally by the Flying Horses to record the victory.
Josh Paszkowski’s 18 points paced Colonie. Bryce Waterman contributed 12 points, and Isaiah Moll added 11 points. Daniel Buie and Jack McLaren each had 15 points for Troy (0-1).
Shaker built a 31-20 halftime advantage against Averill Park (0-1) and pulled away in the second half to pick up the victory. Brian Hayes led Shaker with 24 points, while Isaiah Moak netted 14 points for Averill Park.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Guilderland used a 24-3 run in the first quarter to pull away from Christian Brothers Academy in a 61-31 victory.
Andrew Sischo scored 17 points, and Justin Monin contributed 14 points for the Dutchmen (1-0). Sloan Seymour netted 15 points to pace CBA (0-1) in its Suburban Council debut.
In the Colonial Council, Watervliet defeated Ichabod Crane 66-53 on the road. Ty’Jon Gilmore poured in 26 points, and Joey Atkins added 12 points for Watervliet. Peter Volkman’s 18 points led Ichabod Crane.
