Shaker/Colonie defeated Christian Brothers Academy 4-1 Saturday, Jan. 24, in the second of two meetings between the schools that call the Albany County Hockey Training Facility their home rink.
Justin Lange gave the Jets (2-5-0 league, 2-10-2 overall) the lead late in the first period when he stuffed home a pass from Nate McCarroll. McCarroll scored Shaker/Colonie’s next two goals — the first coming less than six minutes into the second period off an assist by Giovanni Malatesta, and the second with six minutes left in the third period off a feed from Blake Clickner.
CBA (0-9-0, 3-11-0) pulled within two goals when Robby West scored with 3:57 left in the third period, but Jimmy Morrison tallied for Shaker/Colonie a short time later to seal the victory.
Shaker/Colonie goaltender Zach Dignum stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced, while CBA netminder Jared Vandeloo made 15 saves.
The Jets entered Saturday’s game off a 3-2 overtime loss to Guilderland/Mohonasen/Scotia in a Friday, Jan. 23, non-league game. Troy Bennett scored the game-winning goal for the Storm, who ended a 58-game losing streak.
CBA visits Glens Falls/South Glens Falls/Hudson Falls Wednesday, Jan. 28, and Niskayuna/Schenectady Friday, Jan. 30, while Shaker/Colonie hosts Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa Jan. 30.
