The Colonie wrestling team defended its home turf by beating Bethlehem 52-25 in a Suburban Council dual meet Wednesday, Dec. 17.
Caleb Tollisen (145 pounds), Jack DiSanto (152) and Brandon Brothers (195) won their bouts for Colonie by pinning their opponents. Jake Kimble (99), Talha Hafeez (126) and Jake Pfaff (160) also earned victories.
Brett Boyd (106 pounds), Devin Wright (120) and Chris Tangora (220) pinned their opponents for Bethlehem.
Boys basketball
Colonie came close to upsetting the undefeated Shenendehowa boys basketball team.
The Garnet Raiders trimmed a nine-point halftime deficit by nearly half, but they couldn’t catch the Plainsmen in a 50-46 Suburban Council loss Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Colonie (1-3) made 10 out of its 24 three-point shot attempts and recorded 13 assists, but Shen (4-0) drained 14 of its 18 free throws to hold on for the four-point win.
Thomas Huerter scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Shen. Kevin Huerter had 11 points and six boards.
Nolan Smith paced Colonie with 15 points, while Bryce Waterman contributed 12 points. Josh Paszkowski added 11 points and five assists.
Girls basketball
Shenendehowa started the game on a 15-2 run and never looked back in beating Colonie 60-44 Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Carly Boland netted 22 points, and Sydney Brown added 17 points for the Plainsmen (4-0). Erin Fouracre led three Colonie players in double figures with 14 points. Aliyah Wright and Aliyah Massaconi each contributed 13 points.
Boys bowling
The Colonie boys bowling team rolled past Guilderland 28-4 in a Suburban Council match Wednesday, Dec. 17.
Andrew Mochrie led the Garnet Raiders with a 279 high game and a 754 series. Rob Mengel rolled a 698 series over three games, and Kenny Livengood added a 655 series.
Brandon Indovina paced Guilderland with a 595 series.
Indoor track
Colonie was third among seven girls teams and fourth among seven boys teams at its first Section 2 Indoor Track League meet Saturday, Dec. 13, at Union College.
Colonie’s Lizzy Deyo won the girls long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 9.5 inches. On the boys’ side, Ryan Marriott took first place in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 3 inches, and the 3,200-meter relay team of Cory Marriott, Nathan Koniszewski, Seth Prevratil and Alex Rollo finished first with a time of 9:33.9.
