The Shaker boys basketball team couldn’t stop Andrew Platek.
The junior guard scored 41 points to lead Guilder-land (4-0) to a 74-62 Suburban Council victory over Shaker Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Platek was especially effective from behind the three-point arc and the foul line. Platek drained seven three-pointers — some of which were from well beyond the arc — and made 12 of his 13 free throws.
Ralph Simeone contributed 15 points for Guilderland, which outscored Shaker (2-2) 43-26 over the course of the second and third quarters.
Omari Lewis had 14 points, and Seamus McHugh chipped in with 13 points for the Blue Bison.
Shaker looked to bounce back from its road loss when it hosted Colonie Friday, Dec. 19.
Girls basketball
Guilderland became Shaker’s latest Suburban Council victim, as the Blue Bison pulled away to a 56-41 victory over the Lady Dutch in a Tuesday, Dec. 16, girls basketball game in Latham.
Guilderland (1-3) stayed close to Shaker (4-0) through the first quarter, but the Blue Bison used a 16-8 run in the second quarter to build a double-digit halftime lead and never looked back.
CeCe Mayo scored 14 points, and Becky Rossier added 12 points for Shaker. Zibby Eckhardt’s 13 points paced Guilderland.
Shaker traveled to crosstown rival Colonie Friday, Dec. 19, in its final game before Christmas.
Boys swimming
The Shaker boys swim team eased past Mohonasen-Schalmont 103-67 in a Dec. 16 home meet.
Steven Yu (200-yard freestyle). Zeeshan Irani (200 individual medley), William Matz (50 freestyle), Tighe Carroll (diving) and Frank Miao (100 backstroke) won individual events for the Blue Bison.
Boys bowling
Shaker eased past Guilderland 21-11 in a Suburban Council bowling match Tuesday, Dec. 16.
David Lansing was Shaker’s top bowler with a 243 high game and a three-game series score of 675. Brandon Indovina rolled a 630 series, and Alex Varsanyi added a 221 high game for Guilderland.
