The Guilderland boys cross country team turned in a dominating performance at the Albany County Meet Friday, Oct. 17, at Colonie Town Park.
Noah Carey won the individual title, and two more Dutchmen placed in the top five to help Guilderland finish first in the team standings with 34 points. Colonie was second with 68 points, while Shaker edged Christian Brothers Academy 73-74 for third place.
Carey pulled away from Colonie’s Jake Johnson for first place. Carey won with a time of 15:26, while Johnson placed second with a time of 15:29.
Guilderland’s Noah Tindale finished third with a time of 16:18, while Bethlehem’s Simon Powhida (fourth place, 16:20) and Guilderland’s Jonathon Feil (fifth, 16:23) rounded out the top five runners.
The Dutchmen also received strong runs by Ethan McDonald (12th place, 16:52) and Jared Capuano (13th, 16:54).
Colonie had five runners in the top 20, led by Johnson’s second-place finish. Tyler Lipina (11th place, 16:51), Erick Bower (16th, 17:03), Jon Coogan (19th, 17:17) and Bryce Barber (20th, 17:18) helped the Garnet Raiders hold off Shaker and CBA for second place in the team standings.
Paul Nichols (sixth place, 16:31) and Tom Hale (eighth, 16:37) led Shaker’s pack with top-10 finishes. Liam O’Brien (ninth, 16:38) and Kevin LaFleche (10th, 16:40) made the top 10 for CBA.
Powhida’s run powered Bethlehem to a fifth-place finish in the team standings with 83 points. Dawson Homer (seventh place, 16:34) also cracked the top 10 for the Eagles.
Guilderland also claimed the girls division title with 46 points. Shaker was second with 65 points, and Bethlehem finished third with 68 points.
Shaker’s Maryanna Lansing claimed the individual title with a time of 18:13. Albany Academy’s Emily Acker placed second with a time of 18:29, and Guilderland’s Emily Burns was third with a time of 18:44.
Burns had plenty of company wearing red and white, as Guilderland placed five runners in the top 15. Sarah Forman was fifth with a time of 19:16, while Alyssa Jourdin placed ninth with a time of 19:31. Rebecca Miceli (14th place, 19:53) and Jennifer Hoffman (15th, 20:04) rounded out the Lady Dutch’s top five.
Payton Czupil (sixth place, 19:19) joined Lansing in the top 10 for Shaker. Shannon Fitzpatrick (17th, 20:28) and Anna Asch (19th, 20:34) made the top 20.
Keeley Hogan (eighth place, 19:27) paced Bethlehem’s pack.
