The Tri-City ValleyCats are off to a 3-0 start to the New York-Penn League season after completing a sweep of the Vermont Lake Monsters Wednesday at Joseph Bruno Stadium.
The ValleyCats are hoping to continue the success they had last year when they won their division and reached the league finals before losing to Hudson Valley. So far, they’ve shown the ability to generate a lot of runs as they’ve scored 26 runs in their three wins. And if what Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow told the Associated Press takes place, pitcher Mark Appel — this year’s No. 1 overall draft pick — will play at least part of his rookie professional season in Troy. With Appel in the rotation, Tri-City seems poised for another terrific season.
However, baseball is a funny sport. What starts out well can change in an instant, depending on injuries and call-ups. That’s why nothing is a given.
So, how do you think the ValleyCats will fare this season. Vote in our poll box at the left of the page, and let us know what you believe will happen. The poll will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
