Four Bethlehem boys earned individual wins at Friday’s Suburban Council Track and Field Championships at Shenendehowa High School.
Steven Booker and Noah Bell provided convincing wins on the track. Booker pulled away from the pack to win the 800-meter title with a time of 1:58.27, while Bell used a late surge to win the 3,200-meter race with a time of 9:33.35.
Bell battled Columbia’s Kyle Gronostaj throughout the 3,200-meter race, with Gronostaj leading most of the laps. Bell passed Gronostaj for good at the beginning of the final lap.
Columbia’s Cody Allen took the early lead in the 800-meter seeded race, but the rest of the pack caught him by the end of the first lap. Booker moved past Allen and Averill Park’s Andrew Tario on the back straightaway, and he cruised to a 1.29-second victory over Saratoga’s Joe Verro.
Drew Duguid and Brian Greenberg added field event wins for Bethlehem. Duguid claimed the league title in the high jump after clearing the bar at 6 feet, 1 inch, while Greenberg posted a winning distance of 44 feet, 0.5 inches in the triple jump.
Bethlehem took fifth place in the team standings with 73 points. Shaker eased to the team title with 158 points, 72 points ahead of runner-up Shen.
