By your votes, it was determined last week that Bethlehem has the toughest gym to play in. This week, we bring it back to the basketball court as we ask you to pick the best non Class AA boys team (Class A and lower) in Section II. Your choices are:
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake — The Spartans (5-7, 6-8) may be below .500, but they are 3-0 against Class A competition this season. That bodes well for them when Sectionals begin in mid-February.
Loudonville Christian — The Eagles (10-0, 14-1) are ranked 10th in New York among Class D teams, and they may be the only team standing in the way of top-ranked Argyle (14-0) of taking the Sectional championship. LCS boasts three players — Mat Yamin, James Hilton and Gabe Brown — capable of scoring 15 or more points in a game.
Mekeel Christian Academy — The Lions (8-0, 12-2) are on a roll after losing their first two games by a combined total of three points. Winning the Class B title might be a tall order, though, as Watervliet (see below) and Cohoes are also in the mix.
Scotia-Glenville — The Tartans (10-0, 14-0) are crushing their Foothills Council competition thanks to a high-powered offense led by Joe Cremo, Alex Sausville and Andrew Tabbert. The only remaining question is, how well will they do once they run into a quality Class A team?
Watervliet — If not for five forfeits due to an ineligible player, the Cannoneers (7-3, 12-7) would be 10-0 in the Colonial Council and a clear favorite for the No. 1 seed for the Class B Sectionals. As it stands, Watervliet looks like the team to beat once again.
