Shenendehowa continued its impressive start by beating Saratoga Springs 3-0 in Thursday’s Suburban Council North Division boys soccer game.
Chris Schmid tallied off a feed from Nick Martin in the first half and scored again in the second half off a pass from Tucker Marvin for the Plainsmen (2-0-0). Ricky Grable added Shen’s third goal late in the second half.
Danny Juers made six saves in goal for the Plainsmen, while Ryan Pfeifer stopped six shots for the Blue Streaks.
Elsewhere, Niskayuna (1-1-0) edged Ballston Spa 1-0 on Brendan Griffiths’ penalty kick goal in the 78th minute. Ballston Spa goaltender Brady King had 14 saves.
Girls soccer
The Niskayuna girls soccer team scored three times in the first half on its way to a 5-0 Suburban Council North Division victory over Ballston Spa.
Meghan Doyle had a hat trick, and Anka Parzych contributed two goals and an assist for the Silver Warriors (2-0-0). Ballston Spa goaltender Penny Smith made 11 saves.
Girls volleyball
Defending Section II Class AA champion Shenendehowa improved its record to 2-0 with a 3-0 Suburban Council victory over Saratoga Springs Thursday.
Hayley Macken recorded 12 service points, three aces and 16 assists for the Plainswomen. Natsumi Takamori contributed eight service points, three aces and six digs, and Michelle Paulsen added three kills and four blocks.
Megan Potter had five digs, and Colette Masters added four digs for Saratoga.
Meanwhile, defending state Class A champion Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake eased past Shaker 3-0 Thursday in Latham. The Spartans won their games by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-13.
Jessica Dillon led BH-BL with four kills, 12 assists and four aces, while Siena Wilder chipped in with three aces and 10 digs.
Madison Rowland had six kills, and Olivia Bruni recorded nine digs for Shaker. Katie McLean added 13 assists.
Golf
Saratoga Central Catholic raised its record to 7-0 with Thursday’s 15-0 victory over Fort Plain in a Western Athletic Conference golf match at Saratoga Spa State Park.
Dylan Seeber and Kayla Szeckely each carded 44’s over the front nine to lead the Saints. Drew Welcome recorded a 45 over the nine holes.
Girls tennis
Shaker swept the singles matches to defeat Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 6.5-2.5 in Thursday’s Suburban Council girls tennis match in Latham.
Shannon Mukerji, Stephanie Behrens, Mia Fallati, Nicole Cocca and Skylar Lu all won in straight sets for the Blue Bison. Elizabeth Sneeringer needed three sets to defeat Morgan Suhrader at No. 4 singles.
BH-BL won at first and second doubles, while the No. 3 doubles match was suspended with Alice Lyle and Caitlin O’Brien tied with Shaker’s Eileen Zhou and Carolyn Bruni at one set apiece.
