STILLWATER — The Shaker girls are the Section II Class AA champs for the first time in team history.
The Lady Bison beat Shenendehowa 2-0 in the finals on a beautiful header by senior defender Alyssa Blake off a corner kick by Francesca Logrippo with about five seconds left in the first half. The second goal was by Olivia Pardo with the Lindsay McCulloch getting the assist.
Shaker keeper Genevieve Austin had five saves in the finals while Shen Keeper Eva Pflomm had 11.
Shaker came into the post season the No. 1 seed in Class AA and the No. 1 ranked team in the state. To get to the finals, it defeated No 8 seed Ballston Spa 6-0 and No. 4 seed Saratoga 4-2 in Mechanicville. Shen was the No. 2 seed.
Against Saratoga, the Blue Streaks scored first on a Shaker own goal but the score was evened by halftime on a shot by Anna Lagace with the assist going to McCulloch.
Shaker dominated the second half with two goals by Micaela Tahoe and then the senior assisted Prado for the third goal of the half.
Austin had seven saves on the day.
Shaker will now move on and play the Section III team on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Mechanicville.
