COLONIE — After its homecoming pep rally and parade, The Garnet Raiders football team picked up its first win of the season by beating Schenectady 34-14 on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Schenectady jumped out to an early 8-0 lead on a 38-yard run by Marquis but Colonie answered with four touchdowns unanswered to take a 28-8 lead into the half. The two squads that are at the bottom of Class AA this year were scoreless in the third and each scored in the fourth.

Zyier Gibson scored on a one-yard run and the conversion was good to tie the score. Gibson would end the day with 145 yards rushing. Quarterback Caleb Eastman then hit Josh Campbell on an 18-yard touchdown to end the first quarter with a 14-8 lead.

In the second, Eastman threw a lateral to Deven Small who then lofted the ball to a wide open Campbell for a 59-yard touchdown and Gibson scored his second of the day on a 31-yard scamper.

Schenectady would score in the fourth but Colonie answered on a two-yard run by Jaidon Grimes to round out the scoring.

The Colonie defense, led by Small and Aydan Verba, forced four turnovers.

Colonie (1-6) will host Shenendehowa on Friday, Oct. 21, and travel to Saratoga on Oct. 28 to round out the regular season.
