GUILDERLAND — Behind a strong pitching performance, the Dutchmen eliminated Colonie in the quarterfinals of the Section II, Class AA baseball tournament on Saturday, May 25 by a score of 5-0.
The game was scoreless through three when Guilderland scored two in the bottom of the fourth and then added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Guilderland, the No. 4 seed, will now play the No. 1 seed Silver Warriors from Niskayuna on Thursday, May 30 at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Niskayuna advanced to the semis by beating the No. 8 seed Bethlehem 10-4.
No. 2 seed Shen will play the No. 3 seed Saratoga in the other semifinal game.
Dylan Jones got the complete game shutout for Guilderland against Colonie, while Adam Webber had two hits with an RBI double in the fourth and Donnie Canchella had an RBI single in the same inning.
Colonie, the No. 5 seed, scattered six hits against Guilderland with Matthew Canastra, Daniel Barbero, Carter Bach, Paul Montesanti, Ian Parker and Patrick Reilly each getting a hit.
Ryan McKenna went five innings giving up five runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four. Reilly came in to relive and in an inning of work gave up a hit and walked three.
