BETHLEHEM — The Guilderland girls hung on to pull out a 53-49 win in a back and forth game against The Eagles in the teams’ Suburban Council opener on Friday, Nov. 30.
The Dutch were up by 11 with 5:09 left in the game, but Bethlehem went on a 12-1 run and the game was tied with under a minute left.
Guilderland’s Valencia Fontenelle Posson hit a layup to take a two point lead with 40 seconds left to take a two point lead. Gracianna Serravillo hit two clutch free throws in two trips to the line to seal the game.
Posson, a sophomore, led all scorers with 29 points including 14 in the third quarter, while her classmate, Empress Lee, had nine and Graycen Dubin had six points. Jamie Golderman had four points, Aysia Pink-Romano and Serravillo had two to round out the scoring for Guilderland.
Julia Harvey had 11 for The Eagles while Ava Laclair and Caroline Wise had nine each. Maren Louridas had seven, Natalia Gibbons had six, Kelly Maney had three and Kiersten Murray and Langston Williams had two each for Bethlehem.
Between games, the girls and boys basketball teams recognized high school teachers and gave them water bottles.
On Tuesday, Dec. 4 Bethlehem (0-1, 0-0) will play at Shaker and host Colonie on Friday, Dec. 7. Guilderland (1-0, 0-0) will host Niskayuna on Friday, Dec. 7.
