TROY — Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo will receive the Inspiration Award at this year’s Coaches vs. Cancer Basket Ball Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Franklin Plaza in Troy.
The annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is hosted by University at Albany men’s basketball coach Will Brown and his wife, Jamie, and Siena College men’s basketball coach Jimmy Patsos and his wife, Michele. ESPN commentator Freddie Coleman will emcee the event, which is presented by SEFCU.
“We’re really excited about how things are coming together,” said Elizabeth Hunter, distinguished events manager for the American Cancer Society. “On the court, coach Brown, coach Patsos and coach Izzo certainly have a competitive streak, but off the court they create an unbeatable team in support of the extraordinary mission of the American Cancer Society.”
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative utilizes the personal experiences, community leadership and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities and advocacy programs. More than $100 million has been raised since 1993.
