CLIFTON PARK — Shaker defeated Colonie for the third time this season by beating the Lady Raiders 51-38 in the Section 2 Class AA girls basketball quarterfinals Monday, Feb. 22, at Shenendehowa High School.
The Blue Bison built a 28-16 halftime lead and fended off a Colonie run to pull out the victory and advance to the Class AA semifinals Friday, Feb. 26, against top-seeded Shenendehowa at Hudson Valley Community College.
Sierra “CeCe” Mayo netted 13 points, and Shyla Sanford contributed 11 points for Shaker, the No. 4 seed in the Class AA playoffs. Erin Fouracre had 14 points to lead No. 5 Colonie.
Elsewhere, No. 7 Columbia upset No. 2 Bethlehem 58-43 in Delmar. The Blue Devils outscored the defending Sectional champion Lady Eagles 49-34 over the final three quarters to earn their semifinal berth against No. 3 Albany.
Selena Lott poured in 24 points, and Grace Heeps chipped in with 16 points for Columbia. Jenna Giacone had 14 points in her final game for Bethlehem, and Emily Wander added 12 points.
Columbia and Albany play at 6 p.m. Friday at HVCC. Shaker meets Shen in the nightcap of the doubleheader, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
