The Bethlehem Youth Hockey Association Pee Wee A travel team captured the New York State Tier 2 championship with a 9-2 victory over last year’s champion, the NY Aviators, March 15, in Rochester. In the process, it became the first BYHA team to win a state title.
The Eagles qualified for states by finishing in the top two of its zone, and they advanced through pool play by winning two of their three games for six standings points. They defeated West Zone champion Niagara 5-2 and Central Zone champion Lysander 6-3 before losing to the NY Aviators in the final pool play game. Bethlehem defeated North Zone rival St. Lawrence 6-0 in the state semifinals before avenging its only state tournament loss with a resounding victory over the Aviators.
Bethlehem finished the season with a 50-8 record.
