Reading Time: 3 mins read

Guilderland Public Library is currently seeking candidates to fill three anticipated vacancies on our Board of Trustees. Information packets may be obtained at our Circulation Desk. The deadline for bios and photos to be included in our bi-monthly newsletter is Wednesday, April 10. Petitions for nomination with signatures of at least 39 qualified voters residing within the school district must be returned to Guilderland Central School District by Monday, April 22, in advance of the election and budget vote to be held Tuesday May 21. We appreciate your interest in partnering with us to help expand our impact as a valuable and trusted community resource.

Book sale

There are certain constants you can count on in life. One of them is our Better Books Sale the second Saturday of each month. Tempting deep discounts on books, CDs and DVDs will be offered Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.to benefit both you and the library. We dare you to leave empty-handed!

Irish Music

Time to get our Irish on! Toss the Feathers will delight us with their lively traditional tunes Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. This trio’s engaging music, incorporating several instruments, is sure to bring enjoyment and perhaps awaken a long-dormant desire to get jig-gy with it…dancing shoes recommended!

Bleed for the Throne

The American Red Cross and HBO are teaming up to mark the final season of “Game of Thrones”, challenging series fans and blood donors alike to “Bleed for the Throne.” Call 1.800.REDCROSS to schedule your appointment to donate blood or platelets here at the library Tuesday, March 12, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. By donating, you’ll be entered to win one of five trips to the Season 8 World Premier of “Game of Thrones” (age 18 and up). Includes travel for two and accommodations for two nights, plus $250 for expenses. Every donor will receive an exclusive Game of Thrones t-shirt and sticker with a unique Snapchat filter. Visit https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/dlp/hbogameofthrones.html to learn more.

Pickling 101

Unlike cooking, pickling preserves all the vitamins and antioxidants found in raw vegetables and keeps them fresh for weeks, making it a great way to cut down on food waste. Ever wanted to try your hand at pickling? Plan to be here Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. You’ll make and take a jar of pickled Kirby cucumbers and learn a quick and easy technique for pickling vegetables at home. The yield is long-lasting and delicious! Please pre-register online, by phone or in person.Better Sleep

Sleep is becoming a precious commodity in our driven society. At least 35 percent of Americans routinely don’t get the recommended seven hours of sleep each night. Explore ways to encourage revitalizing rest at “Get a Great Night’s Sleep: A CDPHP Program” on Wednesday, March 13, at 6 p.m. Pre-registration online, by phone or in person is appreciated.

Magnolia Table

Our popular Cookbook Club gathers every month to sample dishes from a selection of cookbooks chosen by our staff. This month, we’re featuring HGTV star Joanna Gaines’ “Magnolia Table”. Look through this cookbook in advance at the information desk and choose your recipe(s) while you register in person for this event. Then bring samples of your culinary masterpiece for everyone to taste on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. One lucky participant will go home with a copy of this featured cookbook!

Climate Change

Join us Sat. 3/16 at 2 p.m. as we explore the important topic of climate change. Concern steadily grows, yet this issue has failed to gain significant traction in recent elections. Where do we go from here? Presenter Bill Saxonis from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy will offer a hard look at the body of evidence and current status regarding global initiatives. Mother’s Day Marketplace

Mark your calendar for our Mother’s Day Marketplace, Saturday May 11, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., For more information: [email protected]
