On Saturday, April 29, New York State Police arrested Carl Holsberger, 58, of Colonie on charges of forgery in the second degree, perjury in the third degree and practicing law without a license in Princetown.
Troopers investigated a report of a man, who had been disbarred, portraying himself as a practicing attorney. Holsberger allegedly misrepresented himself to the complainant in a family court issue. Holsberger was prohibited from practicing law in New York State in 1996 as the result of being charged criminally after the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court ruled that he misled clients and fabricated a court order.
He was arrested again for similar behavior in 2004. Over the past year and a half, he allegedly misled the complainant by making her believe that he was handling her family court case as her attorney. The suspect provided apparent legal documents, email correspondences and other paperwork to the complainant indicating that she was to receive a court-ordered settlement for that case. The suspect eventually provided the victim with a notarized judgment agreement with himself listed as her attorney. In fact, no such legal action had occurred.
His case will be prosecuted by the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone who believes that Holsberger has misled them is encouraged to contact the State Police in Princetown at (518) 630-1712.
