A Utica man was arrested by Colonie police just after midnight on Friday, June 22, for promoting prostitution of a 14-year-old girl, according to police.
Around 12:33 a.m. on Friday, officers stopped a vehicle in the lot of the Days Inn at 1606 Central Ave. after observing the vehicle and its occupants acting suspiciously in the lot of the Super 8 Motel at 1579 Central Ave., according to police.
Police found that Darren N. Bostick, 27, of Utica was involved in prostitution activities that involved him profiting from and employing a 14-year-old female, said police.
Bostick was charged with promoting prostitution in the second degree, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, according to police.
Police discovered that the 14-year-old female was a runaway from Saint Anne’s Institute in Albany and she tried to conceal her identity by providing false names to officers, said police.
Bostick was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail and his case was referred to the Albany County District Attorney for further court action, said police.
The 14-year-old female was turned over to the Capital District Secure Juvenile Detention Facility on a juvenile delinquency charge that, if she was an adult, would constitute criminal impersonation and prostitution, according to police.
