“What do we owe our veterans? In a word: Everything.”
Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, R-Saratoga, said that’s why he sponsored a recently passed piece of legislation that would change the name of the Route 9P bridge over Saratoga Lake to the “Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge.”
State lawmakers passed the resolution near the close of the legislative session after the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors asked for the new name in March.
Tedisco, whose late father was a veteran of World War II, describe the renaming of the bridge as, “A small gesture for the huge sacrifices of the men and women of our armed forces to show how much our state owes all those who fought for our country and gave their lives so that we can be free.”
The bridge links the City of Saratoga Springs with the Town of Saratoga and the existing span is nearly brand new following a replacement project that stretched from September 2010 to August 2011. The project resulted in lengthy detours for those relying on the bridge.
The bill to rename the bridge will be sent to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk to be signed into law.
