Five people were kept from attending a STOP-DWI Victim’s Impact Panel at Guilderland Town Hall after allegedly arriving at the panel with alcohol in their system.
Acting Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said volunteers tested the five after detecting alcohol on them. Three of the five had blood alcohol contents above the legal limit of 0.08 percent. None of the five drove to the event themselves.
Two people were also thrown out of the panel for falling asleep and not paying attention.
140 people who were convicted and sentenced to attend the panel were in attendance. During the panels, victims and others impacted by DWI accidents share their stories in an attempt to graphically display the consequences of drunk driving.
