State Police issued 816 tickets for texting-while-driving during the Thanksgiving holiday.
330 of the tickets were issued as part of “Operation Hang-up,” an enforcement campaign conducted Nov. 23-27. The rest were issued during normal patrol operations.
According to a release from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office, during the first half of the year, an average of 429 tickets were issued monthly to drivers for using a handheld electronic device while driving. Since Cuomo signed a law prohibiting the practice, more than 1,000 tickets have been issued each month.
