LOUDONVILLE — Since 1962, Saint Gregory’s School, which is now co-ed, has been preparing students for the most demanding high school programs and the world by combining a rigorous and dynamic academic curriculum with strong moral character development. Today, a major component of that preparation consists of a strong background in STEM: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Boys and girls in the lower school begin building those strong foundations by participating in hands-on activities led by a dedicated teacher in the school’s science lab two to three times each week.
While students in the upper school continue developing their STEM foundations through regularly-scheduled classroom instruction and hands-on activities, they also have the opportunity to join the school’s LEGO Robotics Team, which recently participated in a hydrodynamics-themed LEGO competition with robotics, problem solving and core values components. Members developed prototypes of water filters made from recycled materials that would provide people affected by natural disasters with clean water.
According to Headmaster Dr. Mark Sullivan, “STEM is an integral part of education in our school and provides our students with a competitive advantage and strong foundation for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Kristen Dinkels, our lower school science teacher and Mrs. Kristen Labatt-Simon, our LEGO Robotics coach and upper school math teacher are highly qualified professionals and truly dedicated teachers. We are fortunate to have them as faculty members.”
