COLONIE — A 33-year-old Albany man under arrest for assaulting his 82-year-old grandfather now stands charged with a homicide.
According to Colonie Lt. Thomas Breslin, police were called to 17 Arcadia Court on Friday, Feb. 18 at around 3:13 a.m. for reports of a fight.
Upon arrival, police found Gerald Curran with serious head injuries. Colonie transported him to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

About 12 hours later, police arrested Nicholas Pantoni, Curran’s grandson, and charged him with felony assault.
He was remanded to the Albany County jail pending court proceedings.
On Friday, Feb. 19 Curran died from his injuries and an autopsy confirmed the manner of death was “homicide by blunt force trauma.”
It does not appear a weapon was used, Breslin said.
Breslin said Colonie police is coordinating with the Albany County District Attorney’s Office to formalize homicide-related charges against Pantoni.
