ALBANY — The county Health Department opened its first vaccination pod today at the Times Union Center.
It is the first of what Dr. Elizabeth Whalen, head of the Health Department, said would be many pods established throughout the county in an effort to immunize thousands of people against COVID-19. The goal is to have supply the only obstacle to vaccinating all who want it.
Meanwhile, there were 283 new cases from Wednesday to Thursday bringing the total number to 13,215 since the pandemic took hold in March, 2020.
Of the 41,401 who completed quarantine, 11,393 have tested positive and recovered, an increase of 230 since Wednesday.
There were 20 residents hospitalized overnight bringing the total to 163, a new record. There are 19 in the ICU.
There was one death reported overnight, a man in his 90s, bringing the county death toll to 240.
