ALBANY – Tasheem Maeweather, the city man who is charged with shooting a gun inside Crossgates Mall on Saturday, Nov. 12, was arraigned in Albany County Court on a host of felonies.
According to District Attorney David Soares, Maeweather, 20, stands charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in front of Judge Roger McDonough on Monday, Nov. 5.
Allegedly, Maeweather shot at another mall patron near the Apple Store at around 2:20 p.m. Nobody was hit or injured, but the incident sent the packed mall into chaos.
He pleaded not guilty.
Shoppers and employees were evacuated in stages, while those remaining inside were instructed to hide as SWAT teams swept the mall. Some described the scene as chaos. Police surrounded the mall, a helicopter circled the scene and busses were diverted.
Maeweather wasn’t arrested until the following Monday afternoon at a car wash in Albany, driving a 2007 blue BMW. He had been identified through video surveillance and an eyewitness account, according to Guilderland police. Maeweather has a criminal history and is currently on probation for drug distribution charges.
Maeweather remains in custody at the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail. No new court appearances have been scheduled at this time.
Assistant District Attorney Steven Sharp and Assistant District Attorney Brittany Grome are prosecuting this case. Maeweather is represented by attorney Lee Kindlon.
